Umbra's story began in 1979 with the launch of a window curtain.
Umbra today produces furniture characterized by an original, modern and casual design for every room in the house.
The co-founders Les Mandelbaum and Paul Rowan have started their business with the intention of creating modern design furnishings that was accessible to a large audience both in the price and in style.
Based in Toronto, Canada, Umbra (Latin for “shade”), has become a global leader in product design and currently distributes in over 120 countries across the world with offices in Europe, Canada, the United States, Brazil, and China.
Umbra was born out of passion for original design and the desire to create products for every home.
At Umbra, a team of international designers bring creativity to everyday goods and is driven by innovation drawin inspiration from around the world to continually push the limits of original design.

Eco Friendly
The double leaf icon is used on specific products and on the packaging to identify items designed and made in a more sustainable way.
- More than 55% of plastic products now contain recycled material, with the aim of getting 80% of plastic products containing recycled material.
- Over 65% of wooden products come from fast-growing regenerable species such as poplar, paulownia, bamboo, eucalyptus, rubber wood and FSC certified wood. The goal is to use renewable sources in 100% of the products.
- Umbra is proud to have eliminated disposable plastic and packaging foam from 80% of the packs moving on to recyclable materials and is always looking for new solutions in the technology and design of packaging with the aim of using only recyclable materials.
