Professional Japanese Pruning Shears: Plant Health and Hand Comfort
The Tobisho professional Japanese pruning shears represent outstanding excellence in the world of gardening tools. These instruments, the result of centuries of artisanal tradition, are designed to ensure a clean and precise cut, essential for the health of your plants. Thanks to their high‑quality craftsmanship, Tobisho shears minimize the risk of crushing and bark damage, a crucial factor in preventing bacterial and fungal infections.
The concave shape of the Tobisho blades allows clean cuts that preserve the plant’s sap. Sap acts as a natural barrier against infections, keeping plants healthy and vigorous. In contrast, lower‑quality commercial shears often create irregular cuts that fray the bark, causing sap loss and increasing the risk of disease.
Another distinctive feature of Tobisho shears is the final blade treatment, sharpened like a katana. This precision ensures optimal penetration into the branch and smooth release, making pruning easier and less tiring. With Tobisho shears, you can work for hours without muscle strain — a common issue with inferior tools.
Choosing Tobisho professional Japanese pruning shears means investing in the health of your plants and the comfort of your hands. With Tobisho, every cut becomes an act of care and attention, turning pruning into a rewarding and productive experience. Don’t settle for less: choose the quality and tradition of Tobisho shears!
Tobisho A Type Super Blue Paper Aogami Shears
This pruning shear model features the ancient brazing technique applied to the handle using high‑quality carbon and brass — a process now unique in the world.
Limited edition model, created by modifying the A TYPE R/G based on suggestions from expert winemakers in Bolgheri and adding a shock‑absorbing spring that reduces effort at the end of the cut, allowing even easier cutting compared to the A TYPE R/G.
You can cut hard branches with its phenomenal blade!
Left: the cut from a commercial shear is not clean and the branch dries out.
Right: with a Tobisho shear the cut is clean and the sap remains inside the branch.
The Hamaguri Blade:
One Hundred Hand‑Crafting Steps: Over 100 stages are required to transform two steel bars into a pair of TOBISHO shears.
For this reason, Tobisho pruning shears last much longer than others: they are more durable because they are made from only two pieces plus the screw and spring.
Tobisho Pruning Shears: An Excellent Example of Sustainability and Efficiency
Thanks to traditional manufacturing methods and a two‑piece construction, these shears do not generate unnecessary waste such as maintenance substances or spare parts. This makes them an eco‑friendly choice for those who care for plants without harming the environment. By choosing Tobisho, you invest in a high‑quality tool and contribute to more sustainable gardening practices. Choose responsible innovation and enhance your pruning experience!

Comment:
If you work full days or prune daily for months, we recommend the A Type Super or Asuka models with spring, which reduce muscle strain even further.
Usage Precautions:
When the shears are new, the blade is extremely sharp and grips the branch firmly. Until you get used to it (and until the blade adapts to cutting), it is advisable to cut thinner branches. If you must cut a thick branch, insert the shears at the base of the blade at a 45‑degree angle and rotate slowly. When cutting with force, avoid twisting the blade or moving it up and down: twisting stresses the screw, loosens it, and compromises the leverage mechanism. By following these simple guidelines, your shears will last a long time without issues.
How to Care for the Shears:
After use, remove resin with a hard cloth, dry thoroughly and apply a thin layer of mineral oil (such as motor oil). If the resin has hardened, scrape it off with a hard plastic object (e.g., a ruler).
To keep the shears in optimal condition, apply a drop of oil around the screw (inside, where blade and counter‑blade meet).
The Hamaguri blade can be used for almost 30% of its visible surface. It does not need frequent sharpening because even if chipped, it cuts extremely well thanks to its unique shape.
If sharpened too often, the blade wears down. For daily maintenance, we recommend sharpening with the specific Hamaguri stone: it restores a perfect cut and ensures long blade life.
* Never sharpen the back of the blade.
