Japanese Artisan Secateur "Hiryu" Professional Pruning Shears 190mm - Tobisho
Secateur made in Yasuki YCS-3 Hitachi steel: Its construction, unique in the world, guarantees a fine cut like a Katana.
Blade and counterblade don't touch for better cutting, significantly reducing friction, hand effort and wear. Penetration is easier due to the absence of the nut.
The shock absorber and the shape of the blade of these pruning secateurs reduce the shocks at the end of the cut resulting in a reduction of effort and respecting the hand and wrist.

HIRYU Professional Japanese Pruning Scissors
Tobisho professional Japanese pruning scissors are a benchmark of excellence in the world of gardening tools.
These instruments, the result of centuries of artisanal tradition, are designed to ensure a clean and precise cut, essential for the health of your plants.
Thanks to their high-quality craftsmanship, Tobisho scissors minimize the risk of crushing and bark damage, a crucial factor in preventing attacks from bacteria and fungi.
The concave blade shape of Tobisho scissors allows for clean cuts that preserve the plant’s sap. Sap acts as a natural barrier against infection, keeping plants healthy and vigorous.
In contrast, using lower-quality commercial scissors can lead to irregular cuts that fray the bark, causing sap leakage and increasing the risk of disease.
Another distinctive feature of Tobisho scissors is the final blade treatment, sharpened like a katana. This precision not only ensures optimal penetration into the branch but also facilitates exit, making the pruning process more fluid and less tiring.
With Tobisho scissors, you can work for hours without experiencing muscle strain, a common issue with lower-quality tools.
Choosing Tobisho professional Japanese pruning scissors means investing in the health of your plants and the comfort of your hands.
With Tobisho, every cut becomes a gesture of care and attention, turning pruning into a rewarding and productive experience. Don’t settle for less—choose the quality and tradition of Tobisho scissors.
Tobisho Hiryu Pruning Scissors
Pruning scissors made of Hitachi Yasuki YCS-3 steel. The construction technique, unique in the world, ensures a fine cut like a Katana.
The innovative construction ensures that blade and counter-blade do not touch (unlike paper scissors and thin-object cutters), reducing friction and wear. Thanks to the absence of a nut, penetration is easier.
The shock absorber and blade shape minimize impact and strain on the hand and wrist during cutting.
The small internal grease reservoirs ensure continuous lubrication of the scissors. Hardness 61–62.

Recommended model for professionals:
HIRYU has a small blade that allows cutting with less hand force, thanks to the lever principle. It has a completely different construction from Asuka, and is sharper.
The blade is very thin, like in traditional Japanese handcrafted knives, allowing for an easy and clean cut: the thinnest part of the blade may chip easily, but this does not reduce its cutting ability. The Hamaguri blade, thanks to its shape, wears differently than commercial blades and can continue to cut for a long time, even in conditions that would render other blades unusable.

Left: the cut made by a commercial scissor is not clean and the branch dries out.
Right: with a Tobisho scissor the cut is clean and the sap remains in the branch.
The Hamaguri Blade:

The blade of Tobisho scissors is designed to deliver exceptional performance. Polished like a mirror, its unique shape resembles a Hamaguri shell, making every cut precise and effortless.
Thanks to these innovative features, the blade facilitates entry and exit between branches, significantly reducing friction and strain on the hands. Choosing Tobisho scissors means choosing quality and comfort in scissors that combine tradition and technology, ensuring flawless results and less fatigue.
One Hundred Handcrafted Steps
It takes more than 100 steps to transform two steel bars into a pair of TOBISHO scissors.

This is why Tobisho pruning scissors last much longer than others: they are more durable because they consist of only two parts plus the screw and spring.
Tobisho Pruning Scissors: A Prime Example of Sustainability and Efficiency
Thanks to traditional manufacturing methods and the two-piece construction, these scissors do not produce unnecessary waste such as maintenance substances or spare parts. This makes them an eco-friendly choice for those who care for plants without compromising the environment.
By choosing Tobisho, you not only invest in a high-quality tool, but also contribute to a more sustainable gardening practice. Choose responsible innovation and enhance your pruning experience!

Comment
The basic pruning model by Tobisho, suitable for gardening, farming, and viticulture.
If you work with hard vines like Cabernet or Glera, or plants with tough branches, we recommend the A Type or Asuka models.
If you work full days or daily for months, we suggest the A Type Super or Asuka with spring, which causes even less muscle strain thanks to the spring mechanism.

Usage Precautions:
When new, the blade is extremely sharp and bites easily (it grips the branch and doesn’t move). Until you get used to it (and until the blade gets used to cutting), it’s advisable to cut thinner branches.
If you must cut a thick branch, insert the scissors at the base of the blade at a 45-degree angle to the branch and turn slowly. Also, when cutting with force, be careful not to twist the blade or move it up and down: if the scissors are twisted, the screw is stressed and loosens, and the scissors lose their perfect balance and no longer work according to the lever principle.
If you follow these simple guidelines, the scissors will last a long time without any issues.
How to Care for Your Scissors:
After use, remove resin with a hard cloth before drying thoroughly and applying a thin layer of mineral oil (such as engine oil). If the resin has hardened, scrape it off with a hard plastic object (like a ruler).
To keep the scissors in top condition, inject a drop of oil around the screw (on the inner part where blade and counter-blade meet).
The Hamaguri blade is usable on nearly 30% of the visible surface. It doesn’t need frequent sharpening because even if it’s chipped, it still cuts beautifully thanks to its unique shape.
If sharpened too often, the blade wears down with each sharpening. For daily maintenance, we recommend sharpening with the dedicated Hamaguri blade stone: with this stone, the cut is always perfect and ensures a long life for the scissors.
* Never sharpen the back of the blade.
